02

Protect the area

Floors, walls and nearby rooms are covered and taped off.

03

Treads and rails are sanded to bare wood, and risers are patched and primed.

FAQ

Staircase Refinishing FAQs

Can you change the color of my stair treads?

Yes. We sand the treads to bare wood and stain them a new color, often to match new floors.

Can I use the stairs during the project?

We plan the work so you have access when possible and tell you when stairs need to stay off-limits to cure.

Do you paint iron balusters?

Yes. We can refresh iron balusters along with the handrail and treads.

How long does staircase refinishing take?

Most staircases take a few days, including drying and curing time between coats.
